Two Whales Coffee Shop
May 1 – May 31 2022
This collaborative exhibition was conceived to speak to the vulnerability of our food system in Newfoundland and Labrador, and to provoke discussions and reflection around our reliance on imported foods, even within our perceptions of “local food”, as well as the opportunities that could be on the horizon in imagining a more sustainable food system in NL.
The collection is a mixture of watercolour portraits of imported foods by Walker, and linocut prints of locally grown foods by Hann. Walker’s work also considers foods, such as flour, that are grown in Western Canada but still rely on ferries and calm seas to make it to the island.
